North Georgia College & State University and the City of Cumming announced the establishment of a new MBA program at last night’s city council meeting. The program, called TeamMBA, will be housed at the City Hall Building, located at the corner of Main and Dahlonega Streets in downtown Cumming. The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia approved the new MBA program last spring. North Georgia President Dr. David Potter addressed Cumming Mayor Ford Gravitt, the City Council members and interested citizens, expressing pride in the university and community partnership which will benefit the citizens throughout the Georgia 400 corridor. The Cumming City Council made the relationship official with the signing of a lease for the top floor of the building with the North Georgia College & State University Foundation, Inc. “When we constructed the City Hall building in 2002, we needed three floors and left a fourth floor undeveloped for future growth. At the time, we had no idea that future growth would bring something that would have this much positive impact,” said city administrator Gerald Blackburn. “We are extremely excited about working with North Georgia and having this program initiated at the 100 Main Street location.” The North Georgia College and State University Foundation, Inc., began working with Martin Riley Associates, the architects who designed City Hall, to develop the unfinished top floor into a technology-rich graduate-level classroom environment. In addition to being ideal for a graduate level academic program, the City Hall building is easily accessed and has ample parking. The downtown location is well-lit, safe and secure, officials say. TeamMBA, a program of North Georgia’s Mike Cottrell School of Business, is designed for working professionals who wish to earn the degree without disrupting their careers to attend school full-time. Classes—the traditional face-to-face variety—will be held in the evenings, while communication technologies will keep students in touch for group study and team projects in between classes. Students who enroll in the program can expect to earn their degrees in 20-24 months. Like many MBA programs in the area, TeamMBA is a cohort program, meaning groups of students—typically 30-40 of them— will begin, progress through, and graduate from the program as a group. The inaugural TeamMBA’s cohort begins this August, and applications are being accepted now through June 30, 2008. Early application is strongly urged.
